Computed tomography, also known as a CT scan, merges many X-ray images with the assistance of a computer to generate cross-sectional views of the body. Cardiac CT scans used in the diagnosis of heart disease include: calcium-score screening heart scan and coronary CT angiography (CTA).

Because an X-ray machine is used, cardiac CT scans involve radiation. However, the amount of radiation used is small. This test gives out a radiation dose similar to the amount of radiation you’re naturally exposed to over 3 years.
